One of the reasons why I love birthdays so much (particularly when its mine, which just happened a couple days ago) is because stores give out tons of free stuff. And I mean come on, who doesn’t love a free ice cream or free meal? Or in this case, a free set of lipsticks.
Sephora has their “Beauty Insider” program, which comes with many benefits and promotions, but I’m not going to lie, the main reason why I joined was for the birthday gift. As soon as I heard about the program and what this year’s gift was going to be, I immediately signed up.
The gift itself is a sample set of NARS lip products. For those of you who don’t know, NARS is a higher-end brand (compared to my drugstore products) so I was super excited to try them out. The set includes a Satin Lip Pencil in the shade Rikugien and a Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella.
Rikugien is a super pretty, natural rosey pink with a slight sheen. It’s perfect for everyday wear with just a little color. Cruella is a fierce red, quite bold but stunning at the same time. I love this color so much and will be wearing this a lot for special occasions. Both are great matte products that are still creamy and soft on the lips.
I’d show you swatches, but my lips have been really chapped these days (blame it on the lack of water I’m drinking) so I didn’t want to gross you out. I think I’ll be posting pictures on my Instagram, so follow me there if you want to see what they look like on!
Back to the lip pencils, although I do love them, I’m not quite sure if they’re worth the price. They both retail around $25. The satin pencil (the pink one) is something I’ll definitely consider purchasing in full-size, most likely in the same color just because it’s so pretty and in my opinion worth the splurge. We’ll see, only time can tell.
