September

Ok so here’s what I’ve been dying to share! American Girl flew my mom and I out to NYC to shoot an episode of AG Life for their Youtube channel. I taught the girls how to make two of the DIYs on this blog: the DIY Blanket Top and the DIY Wide-Leg Pants. Their projects turned out amazing and I had so much fun shooting the video. Behind the scenes, it was such a crazy experience- I pulled an all-nighter making my outfit the day before, went to Chem class in the morning, and hopped on a plane at noon. We got to NYC around midnight, started shooting in the morning, and off I go back to California at 4pm. If you follow my Insta Story you would know that I barely made my flight due to rush hour traffic and you bet I ran through JFK with heels and crazy pants on, only for my flight to be delayed. Memorable moments for sure!

November

Finished the Pants Drafting class at the local college and made these leather pants as my finial project.

nothing else like wearing a freshly sewn outfit ✂️

December

Finished another fashion class, Draping. For my final I attempted to do a simplified version of one of the sketches from my illustration class. It still needs to go through quite a few more revisions but I can already picture it.

that lapel thing

Hi! Hello. Wow has it been a long time. Back in October, I promised I would properly post about this jumpsuit to share with you all the deets behind it, so here we are today!

I made this jumpsuit to wear to Silicon Valley Fashion Week in SF, sewing till the last minute and rushing the zipper like always. I wanted to create something that was fun and modern to match the atmosphere. I’ve never done a jumpsuit before this, although plenty of tops and pants, so I thought this was the perfect opportunity to try something new.

The flaps in the front are what I like to call oversized lapels, like on a jacket? It’s a fun twist on a plain halter top, and the pants are just wide-legged with pleats. Pattern, self-drafted, like always. I used a rayon-challis I bought in Toronto last year which wrinkled like crazy, so minimal sitting is advised and lots of steaming recommended.

These photos were taken by Matthew Carlson. I had a really fun time shooting with him and his work is amazing, so check him out! Here’s his Instagram and website.

If you saw my Instagram Story you would know that this design has actually won an award- first place in the Young Crafters category of The Craftys, a national crafting competition, and Lisa Loeb was the one to announce it! You can view the video below, and here’s the news article Patch.com did on it.

That’s about all I have for today! It’s been a couple years since I’ve done a shoot so I’m just getting back in the hang of things. As you all know, I used to shoot once a week when I posted multiple times a week (oh those were the good days), so bear with me as I get used to the camera again. :) I’m currently working on a couple of new projects and designs, and I can’t wait to share them with you soon!

2016 recap

IMG_0402

hey guys, so much has happened this year, it all seems like a whirlwind! I’m doing a quick recap today to thank you for all your support this year, whether you attended an event, bought a copy of my book, read my blog, or simply encouraged me to keep on going. it has been absolutely amazing and I’m entirely grateful for all the opportunities I received and wonderful people I’ve met. speaking of blog, we also hit 11,000 page views per month this month, which is so crazy to me! never in my 2.5+ years of blogging did I ever think we would grow to that number. hope you all have been having a wonderful holiday season and have spent time with family. I’m wishing you the best to come.️

without much more talking, here are all the events and press that have happened this year! everything I’m shown wearing is made by me. :)
