Tips on Dressing Effortlessly

UntitledUntitledUntitled

I don’t know about you, but I’m a huge fan of the “model-off-duty” look. You know what I’m talking about: boyfriend jeans, white tee, minimal but glowy makeup, effortless but put together, and all that? That would be my dream style in a nutshell. People these days are overthinking fashion and personal style which can make that effortless look harder to achieve. So without ado, here are some tips to help you look like a model, off-duty. :)

1. Classic Combo

You can never go wrong with a classic white button up and skinny jeans. The trick is to finding them in a style/cut that fits you impeccably. Even if they’re a little pricier, it’s worth the investment in quality basics.

2. Dainty Jewelry

Small jewelry, especially gold can really elevate an outfit. I say small because larger pieces can make you look like you’re trying too hard. A hint of gold says “I tossed these on without even thinking and I look super put-together.” Midi rings and dainty necklaces are perfect for this purpose.

3.Hair Too

That kinda beachy, tousled looking hair is nearly everyone’s definition of “effortless hair” but honestly, just add either dry shampoo (thicker hair) or a texturing spray (finer to normal hair) to the beadhead you have when you wake up and it’s that effortless!

Just in case you do want beachy looking waves, here’s my trick: the day before I take pictures, at about 6:00 pm I’ll go spritz my hair with a bit of water and sea salt spray (here’s the one I use) so it’s just slightly damp. I braid it and leave it alone for couple of hours until bed. Then I’ll pull the braid out. At this point they look like frazzled curls so to make them more like waves, I’ll go to sleep and overnight they loosen up because of all the tossing and turning I do. That’s about it for my way of getting heartless, beachy, effortless, waves.

4. Don’t Try Too Hard

Try not to over think it. Look at pictures on Pinterest for inspiration but always stay true to YOU. Fashion spreads and style blogs are nearly always advertising some new, outrageous trend when in reality, they’re fun to look at but aren’t realistic for many of us. Those (including myself!) trying to recreate those looks can look like we’re trying to hard, which leads me to my next point…

5. Keep It Simple

Basics aren’t boring, colors are needed, and go with your gut. White, black, and blue mixed with gold are tried-and-true classics. Try on different outfits and if it feels like too much, just remember to keep it simple. Feeling confident in what you wear, no matter what it is can radiate an unexplainable aura of class. That’s how you truly look effortless.
